My kindergarten friends just completed their paper mache' sculptures of baby chicks. They had a blast creating them, and I think they did an amazing job. This is just a preview and sampling of what's to come for the art show on Wednesday May 17, 6:30 - 8:00. Have a great weekend! ~Mr. G. What's happening in the art room? What a busy few weeks we have had in the art room! The students have been learning all about sculpture and 3-dimensional art. Each class has been creating different farm animals from recycled supplies. Once their armature (or bones) is structurally sound, we then spend a class adding either paper mache' or paris craft as a layer of skin. Most classes have completed this step, and are now ready to begin the painting process. We will be painting the sculptures in a non traditional, or surreal way, rather than realistic colors. Expect to see lots of fluorescent colors and metallic colors, which should add a nice creative touch to their sculptures. The art show is rapidly approaching. I hope you save the date, Wednesday, May 17, from 6:30 - 8:00 for a look at our farm display. ~Mr. G. Sculptures of animals in progress. Can't wait to see them finished! They used different blends of oil pastels to create dabs or blotches of color within their landscape illustrating the impressionist technique. Once completed, a watercolor wash was used similar to a water color resist for the foreground, middleground and background. A few of the students are also working on their Paul Cezanne apple still life's with patterns of line for the background. Students worked on the technique of blending and mixing colors for this lesson. Be sure to check these beautiful works of art out hanging in the hallways the next time you visit HES.
