Notes from Mr. Granucci, in the Art Room
The Haddam Elementary School Annual Art Show will be Wednesday May 22, from 6:30 – 8:00 in the evening. Please remember to mark your calendars. All the children have been working especially hard on their projects since September. Many projects have been based around the theme “Henri Rousseau’s Surreal Jungle”. The cafeteria and the hallways will be set up as an art gallery. I know you will be impressed with what your child has created this year as most projects, both 2-D and 3-D; is put on display. I hope you will make every effort to bring the whole family and friends on that night.

The night of the art show, please fill out an “Artist Gram” for your child located in the cafeteria. You can write a personal note to your child complimenting or congratulating them on their accomplishments. The “Artist Grams” will be delivered to your child in the days following the art show.

Remember to check out my blog on the district website to see some of the latest happenings going on in the art room.

We are in need of many parents to help out with hanging art for the art show on May 21 starting at 8:30 am. Please be on the lookout for the signup genius in your email, or you can email me directly at jgranucci@rsd17.org . Our greatest need is for parents to help all morning with the hanging. All three dimensional work will be set up after the lunch hour starting at about 1:30.
We will start taking down the show the week of May 27. It doesn’t have to come down all at once; A few hours anytime during that week would be appreciated. I would like to have everything down and distributed by the first week in June. Help will be needed separating, sorting, and delivering the artwork to the classrooms. Please consider helping out with our art show this year. The children are so excited about showing off their work. If you think you could assist in any way, please send in the reply at the bottom of this notice.

Notes from Mr. Granucci in the Art Room.
Our Kindergarten students recently completed their paintings of winter birds. Students were taught that by using the elements of shape, artists can draw almost anything.

In first grade we have been studying tree frogs. Students designed their own tree frog using a variety of patterns, shapes, lines and colors. Soon some of our first grade students will be working on tree frog sculptures.

The second grade students have just completed a mixed media picture of tropical birds. Students used oil pastels, watercolors, tissue paper and sparkle glue to add a finishing touch to their birds.

Our third grade students recently completed another project to go along with our jungle theme for this year. The students had the challenge of designing a chameleon using the elements of line, color, shape and pattern.

Recently, our fourth grade students had a great time building sculptures in Art Maker-space.  Here are just a few of their creations.

In closing, I’m looking for volunteers to begin the process of mounting the art work for our annual art show in May. I already have quite a load of projects ready to be mounted and name tagged.  Please consider helping out. It is a great way to be involved with your child’s education and it’s one of the easiest jobs, as no special talent is needed other than the ability to use a glue gun. The mounting can be done preferably in the art room any time during the day, or at home once I have shown you what to do. Please send an email to jgranucci@rsd17.org if you would like to help make the last HES art show the best ever!
