Students in grade four have been painting some beautiful majolica tiles of sea turtles and tropical fish. I'm so pleased that the students came up with some beautiful patterns and designs. What a wonderful keepsake they will have from their elementary days in art class for years to come!
spotlight on grade threeMy students in grade three have just recently completed some amazing watercolor/oil pastel resist paintings of sea turtles. Students enjoyed learning to draw these sea turtles and learning information about them. One of the challenges the students had was to blend different combinations of colors within their hexagon designs on the turtle shells.
spotlight on kindergartenThe children in kindergarten recently completed some beautiful oil pastel/watercolor resists of Koi fish swimming in a pond. I think you will agree that these paintings should be framed when they come home from the art show this year.
spotlight on grade 2Students in grade two have been learning about the famous artist Henri Matisse. We took a look at the still life titled Goldfish, then students put their own spin on this painting by learning how to draw in 3-d. I think the children enjoyed this challenge of incorporating the elements of line, shape, pattern and unity, as well as designing their own tropical fish. Check them out at the art show, I'm sure you will be impressed!
Art show updateNotes from Mr. Granucci, in the Art Room
The Haddam Elementary School Annual Art Show will be Thursday, May 19, from 6:30 – 8:00 in the evening. Please remember to mark your calendars. All the children have been working especially hard on their projects since September. Many projects have been based around the theme “Under the Sea”. The cafeteria and the hallways will be set up as an art gallery. I know you will be impressed with what your child has created this year as most projects, both 2-D and 3-D; is put on display. I hope you will make every effort to bring the whole family and friends on that night. The night of the art show, please fill out an “Artist Gram” for your child located in the cafeteria. You can write a personal note to your child complimenting or congratulating them on their accomplishments. The “Artist Grams” will be delivered to your child in the days following the art show. WANTED: I have only had four parents volunteer to help hang the art show on Wednesday the 18th, which is also a minimum school day. I could use another 10-12 parents or more. Please consider helping us. Without your help all artwork may not get hung in time. Please, If any parent would like to help with hanging artwork for the art show, or taking down the art work after the art show, you can e-mail me at: [email protected]., or reply at the end of this newsletter return slip. No need to reply if you already have. We will be hanging pictures and setting up for the show on Wednesday May 18, starting at 8:30am.
