Mrs. Rich's class took on a very challenging clay project recently in the art room. Students created fish banks using skills that are quite advanced for their ages. I couldn't be more pleased and proud of my students for stepping up to a project that would rival most middle and high school students. The fish sculptures on the average measure approximately nine inches in length. Pictured, are the completed fish banks ready for the first firing. Students will soon be glazing their banks which will be ready for the art show on May 19th. I'll be posting more pictures when these creations come out of the glaze firing.
CAS awards Congratulations to Kyle Wiese - Haddam Elementary School and Elsa Kuehn - Burr Elementary School for receiving the Connecticut Association of Schools award for art. These two deserving students were honored at the CAS annual banquet award ceremony at the Aqua Turf February 22nd.
Art Show update Notes from Mr. Granucci, in the Art Room
Thank-you parents, for sending in your recycled supplies for our sculpture unit. Students in grades K-4 have recently started their paper mache’ tropical fish and sea critters. Students are working in cooperative groups, problem solving while constructing their 3-dimensional recycled creations. Please continue to send in your recycled items. A complete list can be found on my blog page. We continue to prepare for this year’s art shows “Under The Sea” which will be at HES on May19, and BES on May 3rd, from 6:30 – 8:00 in the evening. Please be sure to mark your calendars. All the children have been working especially hard on their projects since September. I know you will be impressed with what your child has created this year as every project both 2-D and 3-D; school wide is put on display. I hope you will make every effort to bring the whole family and friends on that night. If any parent would like to help with mounting art work (at HES only), hanging artwork for the art show, or taking down the art work after the art show at both schools, you can e-mail me at jgranucci66@rsd17.org., or reply at the end of this newsletter return slip. We will be hanging pictures and setting up for the show on Wednesday May 18, at Haddam Elementary starting at 8:30am. At Burr Elementary, we will be hanging pictures and setting up for the art show on Monday May 2nd, at 8:30am. It is extremely important that we have parental help with this task. We will start taking down the show the week of May 23rd at HES, and May 9th at BES. It doesn’t have to come down all at once; A few hours anytime during that week would be appreciated. Help will be needed separating, sorting, and delivering the artwork to the classrooms. Please consider helping out our art show this year. The children are so excited about showing off their work. If you think you could assist in any way, please send in the reply at the bottom of this notice. ~Mr. Granucci --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your Name________________________________________________________ Phone_____________________Email___________________________________ School____________________________________________________________ Your child’s name___________________________________________________________ Hang Art Show__________________________ (We hang the art work all day) Take down Art Show___________________________________ (Any time during the day or week) Mounting Art (HES only) ___________________________________________ |
