Notes from the art room
This month, we have been very busy in the art room. Our Kindergarten classes are drawing and painting winter birds using geometric shapes. We have also started to learn about clay and will be creating pinch pots.
In first grade, our students are working on a mixed media picture from outer space using lines and shapes to create patterns.
The second grade students have just completed a mixed media picture of aliens based on the story Aliens Love Underpants, by Clair Freedman & Ben Cort. They had a blast creating and designing new underpants for their aliens using the elements of line, shape and pattern.
Our third grade students have just about completed a mix media drawing project of flying saucers. After drawing a plethora of robots, aliens and space animals, they accented their flying saucers with a cut out symmetrical design using a variety of geometric shapes.
In fourth grade, our students are learning different techniques using clay to create aliens.
Congratulations to Grace Mitchell who is this year’s recipient for the Connecticut Association of Schools’ Celebration of the Arts award. Grace will be receiving her award at the Aqua Turf on February 5th.
Stop by my blog page at www.rsd17.org to see more exciting creations we have been working on in the art room.
Please continue to save and send into school recycled supplies. The list can be found on my blog page. We continue to be particularly in need of newspaper on a regular basis.
